Happy New Year 2010

Happy New Year 2010!  Another year has come, another year has gone.  It seems like yesterday I was writing this New Years message........well, it was almost March.  Doing much better this year, 1/3/2010.  (It's going to take awhile to get used to typing 2010)  Have you heard there's a word war going on as to whether this is the last year of the present decade or the first year of the new decade.  What do you think?  Anyway, my message has not changed from last year, it's a new beginning.  Let us make sure we spend it wisely.  I'm so thankful to see another one.  Concentrate on relationships, firming them up with a constant refreshing; with each other and with God.  Last year is gone in a flash.  We now have a new year, and fortunately a new beginning every day.  Let's always be sure we have our relationships firmed up. Never take them for granted.  God first, family second, then everyone and everything else.

Psalms 32:7

This verse from Psalms brightened my day today; I hope it does yours too.

"You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance."  Psalms 32:7  NIV

It's good to know we have a shelter from the daily routine, should we choose to accept it.  Our "hiding place" is in the Lord, and he will cause us to sing because we are delivered  and freshened from our trouble.

Hate Crime Bill Now Law

President Obama today, 10/28/09, signed into law a controversial “hate crime law”.  Shortly after he hosted a White House reception for gay activists.  The bill which was pushed through Congress attached to an unrelated defense bill, did not make it on it’s own several months ago.  I am concerned that this bill was written strictly to protect gays from hate crimes.  It gives more protection to gays than to elderly, or children, or any others who are victims of a hate crime.  I am certainly not against protecting innocent people from hate crimes, but why single out a particular sector.  I wrote Congressman Kratovil when the original bill was proposed noting my objections to that bill.  It fell on deaf ears I am afraid.

I have nothing against gays.  The Bible teaches us to love the sinner and hate the sin.  Thank God, or we all would be lost for we have all sinned and fell short of God’s will.  The Bible is very specific about the sin of homosexually, as well as many other sins in this passage of scripture;  “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves, nor the greedy nor drunkards, nor slanderers nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”  I Corinthians 6:9-10 NIV

I pray that as God watches over us (including our leaders), He gives us wisdom and understanding of His Word and how it applies in our daily lives.

Proverbs 3:21

"My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight;" -- Proverbs 3:21  NIV

Sound judgment comes by making sure all the facts are known, and not making "snap" judgment without knowing all the facts.  Discernment is the ability to see what many others cannot, exhibiting  keen insight.  Those with discernment are skilled in perceiving, discriminating and/or judging.

Be filled with "sound judgment" and "discernment".

Have We Prayed Today?

I recently heard a song by Rita Broyles from Ablemarle, North Carolina. The title "Have You Talked With Jesus Today" got my attention. We talk to everyone and their brother in a days time and yet forget to talk to the most important One. We talk to friends, relatives, coworkers, even strangers, but forget to talk to the one who should matter most to us. Hope you get a chance to hear this one. I've always promoted the importance of wisdom and understanding.  Here's another that is just as important; discipline.  With discipline we can stay steadfast and focused.  What an excellent attribute to wisdom and understanding.
