Is President Bush right or wrong

Occasionally I send a 150 word memo to the Daily Times.  I belong to the Reader's Forum with about 25 or 30 others that receive a question of interest every week and can respond if we choose.  I've responded to about 3, and this was the last one.  The question for August 27th was:

Is President Bush right or wrong in his insistence (at a Monday press
conference) that the U.S. will not pull out of Iraq while he is president?

This is my response:

Some just don't get it.  There's a lack of knowledge by some, and others are blinded by political prejudice.  If we pull out of the Middle East, life as we know it, will cease to exist.  If we have no presence in an area where violence and terror abound and has no check at all, eventually, it will spread to our shores and invade our freedom as a nation. We not only fight to free the Iraqi people, but also to protect freedom on our own soil. I applaud President Bush in his stand to protect this nation.  Freedom is not free.  The boisterous minority touting retreat has no idea what freedom is.  The peace activists and their small band of roadside sign bearers, have no idea what peace is.  Freedom comes because we are willing to defend it.  Peace is a state of mind that comes from within.

I like what you've wrote. I think there is a lot more to it though. We could go in several different directions. We could go in the direction where like you said, there is a lack of knowledge where people are just not doing any research and going on what is put right in front of them. We could also go in the direction where people are simply ignorant to the truth. We could say people just don't care. Bottom line is.... The US is full of left and right-wingers, a few in betweeners and a lot of disagreement. Disagreement we need. We need this so that the US can seem strong on one front and still compassionate on the other. We can just hope that in the end the majority was right and we did the right thing. This particular readers feeling… I agree with staying in Iraq and seeing it through until mission complete, (what ever that may be). I think President Bush needs some serious help in the PR department though. I'm not saying he hasn't made some serious errors in other places during his two terms; however, I agree with his stance on Iraq.
